NUDIST ISLAND begin when ugeng and ami sit
in elementary school, they just a little crazy kid that really like
music when they at 6th grade on their elementary school,..anyway
they are in the same elementary school and same neighbourhood in
cijerah, bandung, Indonesia..at that time
ugeng just learn to play guitar from his classmates name call "lucky".
they ussualy listen to old stuff music like metallica, guns and
roses, and sepultura... ussually ami and ugeng learn and hear music
from lucky home, with one of their bestfriend call "agung"
after several time ugeng has own acoustic
guitar,.and more learn about music...in juniorhigh school in bandung,...at
this time ami start to learn to bang drum from his neighbour name
"ade" ade is one of ami bestfriend that really good at
playing drum...actually ade is more old that ami and ugeng..and
then they start like green day when they at 3rd grade in junior
high school..
ugeng and ami start to build their 1st band
with one of their neighbour name "udi" they start to cover
green day song , rancid, nofx..etc.. they start to learn what punk
is ! when they entering high school they start to made their own
song, ugeng often trying to made his own song, over and over...at
this time udi has already replace with "arief" that actually
more younger then both...at this periode their band name is "
NOCONS/NO CONSERVATISM " they change their band name to NUDIST
ISLAND after several years ...i don't know maybe they think this
name has no lucky at all...haha
after several years..they start to practise
more and more then ami and ugeng decide to replace arief with ogie
that ami and ugeng think more serious and has credibility with their
band,...!they start to hear more into melodichardcore stuff like
NOT AVAILABLE from germany and some punk stuff from USA like lagwagon,mxpx..etc.they
begin to recording their own song when their practise ..about 1997
when they in 3rd grade in high school they decide to change their
band name into NUDIST ISLAND for no reason ! they said .."
well we just like this kinda sound ..the idea is come when they
read an pornography magazine from ami classmate that write in deutch..and
spontan they said hey i found a good name from this fucking mag...
see this ..nudist island with many nudist archipelago map picture..!
that's it if you ask why the band name is NUDIST ISLAND !
 this
trio star to play in several gigs in their hometown "BANDUNG"
they play everywhere in everypossibility moment.cuz there's so many
great band that star to grow up in bandung too, at that time many
band in scene that more into 80's punk, oi !, or new school/old
school hardcore like RYKERS. YOUTH OF TODAY, SICK OF IT ALL etc..the
exploited..etc
they always try to entering some audition
to get play in some show ..but in 1997-1998 not to many people that
like their music style that really short,weird, and not too macho
i guess, bur after sometime they star to play in many show, still
with their own style music...it's really funny if i remember the
earlier NUDIST ISLAND show imagine this ! people ussualy just watch
this band play and like hipnotized by them and then just give applause
after they finish....ow it's silly...! hahahaha...
in 2001 their first hit is song call" how long..."in BAD
TUNES AND SOME ORDINARY THINNGS v/a CD comp that released by MY
OWN DECK in bandung with many Indonesian punk bands,..this song
is have many good respons from kids in scenes after several month,..they
play in more gigs !
in NOV 2001 they recording their 1st material
consisting 11 shortcore punk song in workhousehome studio bandung,
west java this is for their first split release with one of local
punk band name AGGRESSIVE TOUCH from bandung too !..then in may
16th 2002 their first split cassette start available in many distro
in bandung, jakarta, and some great mailorder in Indonesia....from
this moment they often interview by many newsletter/zine/magazine..etc...so
